The Pros and Cons of this Tower Cavaletto Espresso Maker.

Pros:

  •  The fun design that is a blend between capsule and coffee-house machines
  •  The 240ml carafe for a good quantity of coffee to fuel your morning
  •  The additional milk frother for an attempt at some lattes or cappuccinos
  •  Works with various coffee grounds so you can experiment with flavours
  •  A 3.5 bar pressure system that is enough for beginners

Cons:

  •  The cheap plastic machine feels a little flimsy
  •  There is the risk of a little too much steam or water escaping
  •  It takes longer than some had expected

The Tower Cavaletto Espresso Maker is a cute little system that combines features from popular products.

Let’s start with the general design of this espresso machine. There is a really slim model here that sits nicely on any kitchen counter and initially looks like a capsule coffee machine.

However, the clever design brings in a tamper-style holder for the coffee grounds that gives this a more stylish and professional edge.

The hot water feeds through these ground and the steel filter for a reliable coffee-making process. The high-end feel is completed with the rose gold accents and the matching glass carafe.

This use of the carafe is where there is some dispute about this machine’s place as an espresso maker. There is a 4 espresso capacity to the 240ml jug where you can then decant the coffee into separate glasses or work your way through the pot at your desk.

This actually makes the system a little more versatile than advertised. Also, there is the option to turn the coffee into a latte or cappuccino with the milk frother on the side.

There isn’t much else to this coffee maker. All you need to do is add your ground and water, turn it on at the side, and return to a pot of coffee when it is finished. What you then do with the coffee is up to you. You make the process as simple or complex as you like.

The low cost of this Tower Cavaletto means a lower quality device that some people are uncomfortable using.

The most common complaint here is that this espresso machine is cheap and flimsy with all the thin plastic parts and basic construction. This shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise considering the incredibly low cost.

Some users didn’t like how unstable it felt and said that the steam seemed to shoot out of too many gaps. This then leads to concerns about how long it will last.

But, those that are prepared to put up with a little rattling and a few drips still tend to find that this is a good starter product.

The only other major complaint is the amount of time it takes to brew the coffee. It isn’t the same high-pressure, one-touch system as some of the affordable capsule coffee machines.

This means that you wait a little longer for your drink. It also means that the frothed milk isn’t going to have barista-quality microfoam. But, the fact that this isn’t a one-touch machine and that it even has the frother option is part of the charm.

Is this Tower Espresso Coffee Maker the right option for an affordable way to make coffee at home?

The term you get what you pay for has never been more apt than with this machine. You aren’t going to get coffee-house quality drinks in an instant because the machine simply doesn’t have the components to make that happen.

However, it does have a fairly user-friendly coffee-making process for a carafe of your favourite blend and it looks really cute on the counter.

This quirky little Tower espresso machine isn’t perfect but there are coffee lovers on a tight budget that will adore it for the opportunities it provides.
